Alyson’s Story
Where to even begin with writing about Alyson and her story that she told. Alyson is married with 3 children. 2 girls, and a boy, Stockton. When Stockton was in Junior High, he told his family that he was gay. Living in a LDS Religious culture, that was hard for Stockton and his family to navigate. There was a lot of fear that came with his journey in life. He would battle acceptance, among many other trials. Alyson comes on the podcast and shares some of their story in hopes to help other children out there. She wants and is continuously trying to make changes to how the LDS faith views, and treats the LGBTQ community. Sadly, Stockton ended up taking his life. He felt that his burden was too much. Since his death Alyson and her family have become a part of many organizations to help many more children living in Utah. They also have a non-profit and a memorial scholarship that they have set up in Stockton’s name. We loved not only listening as Alyson spoke, but also learning from her about what we ourselves could be better at when it comes to the LGBTQ community.
